Using the IKEv2 VPN Option on iOS 8
setup the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN on iOS8
While iOS 8 does support IKEv2, it has not provided a way for the user to configure it. If you are using iOS 9 then support for configuration is included in the operating system and you can visit the VPN Instructions for iOS 9 page to learn how to do it. These following instructions depend on a system that has not yet been completed, and therefore will not work. When the system is finished, these instructions will work. If you still want to use an IKEv2 system now, and you are familiar with .mobileconfig files, you may create an appropriate .mobileconfig file to create the IKEv2 connection.
With iOS 8, Apple has included support for IKEv2 in the operating systems, but has not made an interface to configure it. The CAEDM IKEv2 VPN can still be used by downloading and installing a mobileconfig settings profile, using the instructions below. If your are running a previous version of iOS, you will need to use the CAEDM SSL VPN instead.
- Using Safari on your iPhone, go to caedm.et.byu.edu, and login.
- Go to <special iPhone page> to download the mobileconfig.
- On the "Install Profile" screen, touch "Install" at the upper right corner.
- Enter your iPhone Passcode.
- A "Warning" screen will tell you that your network traffic will go through a remote server, and that the profile is not signed. Press the "Install" button at the top right to continue installing the profile.
- Press the "Install" button that appears at the bottom of the screen.
- On the "Profile Installed" screen, touch "Done" at the upper right corner.
To connect to the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN with iOS8:
- Press the home button on your iPhone.
- Go to the "Settings" application, and navigate to the main "Settings" screen.
- Switch on the toggle button next to "VPN".
- Enter your password, if prompted.
You are now connected to the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN, and a "VPN" box will appear next to your battery charge indicator.
To disconnect from the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN:
- Press the home button on your iPhone.
- Go to the "Settings" application, and navigate to the main "Settings" screen.
- Switch on the toggle button next to "VPN".
