Using the IKEv2 VPN Option on iOS 9

setup the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN on iOS 9

While iOS 8 does support IKEv2, it has not provided a way for the user to configure it. These following instructions depend on a system that has not yet been completed, and therefore will not work. When the system is finished, these instructions will work. If you still want to use an IKEv2 system now, and you are familiar with .mobileconfig files, you may create an appropriate .mobileconfig file to create the IKEv2 connection.

With iOS 9, Apple has included support for IKEv2 in the operating systems. If your are running a previous version of iOS, you will need to use the CAEDM SSL VPN instead.

To connect to the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN with iOS 9:

  1. Press the home button on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the "Settings" application, and navigate to the main "Settings" screen.
  3. Tap on "VPN" in the settings and then on "Add VPN Configuration"
  4. The Type should be "IKEV2" since it is the default
  5. Under description type "CAEDM IKEV2 VPN"
  6. Under server type "vpn.et.byu.edu"
  7. Under remoteID also type "vpn.et.byu.edu"
  8. Enter your user name
    1. You may also save your password but this isn't recomended
  9. Tap on "Done" to save the connection
  10. Switch on the toggle button next to "VPN".
  11. Enter your password, if prompted.

You are now connected to the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN, and a "VPN" box will appear next to your battery charge indicator.

To disconnect from the CAEDM IKEv2 VPN:

  1. Press the home button on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the "Settings" application, and navigate to the main "Settings" screen.
